Brass Monkey was formed to design and produce Accessory Drive Units to adapt the Big Block Chevrolet engine to power a 70% scale replica of the North American P51 Mustang. The Chevrolet engine was chosen by the designer because of it’s ability to deliver 500+ HP .
This aircraft, the Stewart S-51, is an experimental aircraft available in a kit version. In order to convert a liquid cooled engine designed to power surface vehicles accommodations need to be made in order to mount and drive accessories common to aircraft engines. Provisions for a propeller governor, dry sump oil pump, mechanical fuel pump, magneto, centrifugal supercharger and water pump were designed with various failure modes in mind. This system is currently used in six Stewart S51 Aircraft.
